In our last post, we mentioned 10 Morning Routines of Successful Women. We love finding inspiration on how we can live our best lives. Here are some things you can try as you carve out your ideal night routine.
1. Keep a notebook by the bed
Vera Wang’s inspiration strikes in the night time and her evening routine involves working on design concepts. Keeping a notebook on hand for those random bursts of amazing ideas is a great way to clear your mind before going to sleep. Check out our collection of notebooks and notepads to keep near your bed.
“My bedroom is my sanctuary, it’s like a refuge and it’s where I do a fair amount of designing – at least conceptually if not literally.”
2. Take a relaxing bath
Oprah calls herself a bathing professional. Having a relaxing bath at the end of the day has many benefits; and if Oprah is doing it then why not give it a try! We have some amazing skincare items from soaps and scrubs to lip balms, that you can add to your shower routine.
“It’s a ritual… I have different bubble baths, salts, beads and oils.”
3. Screen free time
Media mogul Arianna Huffington designates her bedroom as a screen-free zone. Screens emit blue light that can have horrible effects on your sleep which in turn affects your mood the next day. Try to not use your phone and other devices at least an hour before you sleep.
“There’s something sacred in all of us that we need to protect, and sleep is a way to connect with it, nourish it and make it more present in our lives.”
4. Have a night time skin care routine
Supermodel Doutzen Kroes removes all her makeup before bed. Doing this ensures that you get all the dirt off of your face and gives your skin time to heal, while avoiding a “bad skin day” with breakouts and clogged pores resulting from sleeping with your makeup on.
“I think the most important thing is to always clean your face and ensure your makeup comes off at night. Going to bed with makeup is just so bad for your skin.”
5. Working Out
Coming from the Queen B herself: “I am a person who has a hard time shutting off my brain. If you are active during the day, you will be so exhausted you can’t help but fall asleep.”
A good workout can be an amazing way to unwind, as well as get a boost of endorphins to help your relax, reduce anxiety have a good night’s rest.
6. Reflect on your day
Kelly Clarkson juts down her accomplishments in a notebook before going to bed. This doesn’t have to be anything too fancy or impressive. It can be small but beautiful things such as an act of kindness, talking a walk, doing some skincare or checking off your to-do list at work.
“I go to bed every night and the list of what I’ve accomplished is astounding.”
7. Read a good book before bed
Emma Roberts reads a book before bed to unwind. According to psychologist Dr. David Lewis, a book is “more than merely a distraction, but an active engaging of the imagination,” one that “causes you to enter an altered state of consciousness.” In a 2009 study done at the University of Sussex, as little as 6 minutes of reading can reduce stress, clear your mind and get your body in the mood to sleep.
“I love reading, there is nothing better than having a good book that you can’t put down.”
