Who said storage had to be boring? If you need some new ideas for creating a beautiful space, you can try these 7 cute-but functional storage ideas. Trust us- you’ll be leaving this post running to reorganize your pantry or trying your hand at DIY display shelves.
1. DIY Shelf
Shelves are an amazing way to add more storage to your space and help you to organize. Sometimes, though, shelves can be a bit expensive and complicated to put up but you can make them on your own. Check out this DIY Plant Shelf video to see how our CEO and founder made her very own shelf to store all the beautiful plants in her bedroom using just brackets and pre-cut wood from the hardware.
Not in the DIY mood? Check out this set which has beautiful white (or marble!) shelves with beautiful gold brackets.
This shelf doesn’t need to be just for plants though. You can use it to hold your favourite bags, as a bookshelf and even to display paintings or pieces of art you may have made. The possibilities are endless for shelves and they make adding a personal touch to your space super easy.
PRETTY TIP: Floating shelves are also a really great idea and very easy to install.
2. Baskets
We love baskets over on this corner of the internet. These are a great storage option because they make the best “catch-all” items. If you don’t have a specific area for certain items in your home, you can place them in a basket and put this in the corner of the room. Baskets help you to tuck away anything that can make your space look and feel messy.
We suggest storing items such as blankets, toys, towels, craft supplies, even hats. Check out this super cute Rattan basket or this white woven one, to help you store your odds and ends- or even for your plants!
3. Over the Door Racks & Organizers
An often forgotten item of storage, these make a great renter-friendly option for creating extra storage space. There are so many options to choose from: towel racks, shoes and even jewellery holders.
Don’t look past over-the-door organizers because they are such a functional and easy to use item. Here’s a pretty simple brass option.
4. Acrylic Containers
There’s something about being able to see your things without having to open a container that is just so satisfying. This is where acrylic organizers come in. These can be used in every part of your house- from your bathroom to your living room to your office.
Use containers with draws to put makeup, and even feminine hygiene products. Cylindrical jars are great for holding your cotton swabs and cotton pads. They can also be used to colour code your stationery or even by brand.
Acrylic containers are a chic and elevated way to store virtually anything and they come in a range of sizes and prices to fit your storage and budget needs.
5. Ottomans
Ottomans are great storage items that come in handy for providing extra seating in small spaces- like for your friend at your movie night at home.
There are many sizes and shapes to choose from- round to rectangular, fluffy fabrics, leather or even wicker! There’s definitely an option for any style preference.
Use your ottoman to store items such as books, toys and even cleaning supplies such as small brooms and vacuums.
6. Pantry Goals
Everyone loves an extremely organized kitchen (well at least we do) and aesthetic pantries have become so trendy thanks to the likes of Marie Kondo and Khloe K.
Having an organized pantry is key to knowing what you have so that cooking is a breeze. It also helps you to ensure that the food you are consuming is not past its expiration date.
PRETTY TIP: Ditch the store packaging and transfer your items to glass or airtight, stackable containers instead. You can even use baskets, or lazy susans and pop some labels on them to store and organize your pasta, snacks etc. and you’ll be well on your way to creating a Pinterest pantry heaven.
7. Reuse candle jars
When you are organizing your home or workspace, instead of buying all new containers or jars, you can try this sustainable tip and reuse containers- especially candle jars which can make lovely decor pieces. In our shop, we actually display our pens in repurposed candle jars.
They are sturdy and durable and give you an easy way to organize without spending any extra money. Just remove the label, clean the jar and use it to hold makeup brushes, pens, even laundry detergent (depending on how large your candle jar is and if it comes with a lid).
The next time you use a candle, save it and give it another life after you’ve used it for its intended purpose.
