Ever felt bored or uninspired at your desk? No worries- we have a few items that you can place in your workspace to give you that little burst of happiness and of course, help with your overall productivity.
1. Clock
Having a clock on your desk is useful if you want to track your time and not be continuously distracted by having to check your phone. We all know that “checking the time” can lead to a spur of unwanted scrolling that can end up into 30 (or more!) minutes of serious time wasting. This one is really cute!
2. Planner
A planner is one of our absolute essentials- can you tell? It helps you to keep on top of your schedule and all the tasks you have to do in the day.
We personally prefer a physical planner and love using our Monthly (on sale now!), Weekly and IPP planner to schedule different parts of life from social media strategies to appointments and everyday tasks.
P.S. our Create your Dream Life pen is the best!
3. A notebook or to-do list pad
There is nothing worse than having a brilliant thought or idea and forgetting it. That’s why having a notepad or to-do list on your desk is perfect for making a quick note that you can always come back to.
You can check out our Daily Planner Pads or our best selling Confetti Notepad to see which is best for you. If you prefer Sticky Notes, we have a lovely little selection you can choose from.
4. Candle / Wax Melts
Working at a desk for long hours can get stressful-especially if your surroundings aren’t set up to create an enjoyable experience. One way you can add a little stress relief to your space is by using candles or wax melts.
Scent is known to relax and even help you to remember when used intentionally. Our It’s Pretty Lit candle is a great way to add the perfect ambience to your workspace and make the long hours a little more pleasant.
5. Extra (but cute) Storage Space
One storage idea we are so in love with is acrylic. Acrylic draws add an especially chic look to any desk space. We actually use acrylic makeup draws to store pens, notepads and other little odds and ends. Another great idea is adding floating shelves or cubby holes to store those extra items without cluttering your desk space itself.
You can even take it a step further by adding little personal touches like picture frames and decorative vases. Check out our post on 7 Cute Storage ideas to see how you can add more space to not only your desk but other parts of your home.
6. Accordion folder
Having a place to store your papers is an integral part of ensuring you are organized and can be your most productive self. Accordion folders are a great way to have your papers in one place without having them in a jumbled mess.
Keep personal documents, work papers, contracts and even notes in this folder. It’s a great catch all item to have within your reach. We are obsessed with our Beautifully Organized Life file folder. It’s pink (obviously) so it adds the prettiest pop of pink to your desk, there are 5 file folder sections that you can use to categorize your paper.
7. A desk lamp
Having good lighting is everything; not just for taking great pictures but also for focus. Let’s be honest, sometimes we have to work late hours and you just need that extra brightness to help you to push through and get things done. This is where a desk lamp comes in.
There are many options out there- like this one– and it’s always a good investment, especially if you are sharing a room with someone else. Having a desk lamp allows you to work without disturbing your roommate while getting in your extra hours of work.
8. Book mount/ book holder
If you are a student, this essential is life-changing. Trying to read, write and type all at the same time can be very tricky especially when everything is flat on the surface of your desk.
Having a book stand allows you to not only save space but also to have your book facing you on the exact page you need it to be. This makes it so much easier to read and keeps your space looking neat and tidy even as you’re burning the midnight oil.
9. Water Bottle
Hydration is paramount to keep you focused and water is always the best source. Having a water bottle that is within reach is great so that you don’t have to keep distracting yourself by getting up to hydrate.
Having a cute water bottle at your desk will inspire you to reach for it and having drinking goals on your bottle is even better because it can hold you accountable. Our water bottle is an easy way to help you to keep hydrated while you work.
10. Your favourite pens
Writing with a pen you love is absolutely essential. Sitting at your desk all day doing work can be daunting but having things that you love can make working more enjoyable.
A good pen that glides along the page always gives us a healthy dose of ASMR action and makes us actually want to write and take notes. We personally love the rose gold diamond pens and our signature pink Create your Dream Life Pen which are always our go-to for writing notes and planning our day.
11. Blue Light Glasses
Staring at a screen all day is not the best for your eyes. Blue light from the screen can cause headaches and even long term damage.
This is why getting a pair of blue light glasses is important to ensure you are taking care of your eyes while you work.
Here are the blue light glasses our founder uses when she creates all the amazing stationery to help you live a beautifully organised life. Be sure to protect your eyes so that you can continue to put your best foot forward while you are on your devices.
12. Laptop Stand
Working from home has become a part of everyday life and ensuring your space is comfortable and supports your physical needs is key. Getting a laptop stand is a great way to prevent neck strain and help with posture no matter where your workspace may be. There are many different types available online so do not hesitate to make the investment and have your space be super functional.
13. Flowers
We thought we would end off this post with something purely for aesthetic purposes. It’s great to have a nice clean, organised and functional space but sometimes it lacks that extra touch. This is where flowers come in.
Flowers are a special way to add life to your desk. You can make the choice to support a local florist and purchase fresh flowers or get faux flowers from Amazon but this decision is totally up to you (it is your space after all). Having your favourite flower at your desk can help inspire you to want to work and add a little joy to your time at your workspace.
What is something on your desk that you can’t live without?
